Ramadan calls us to worship and serve
“This is our month of worship.”
Ramadan is a season to deepen worship through Quran, fasting, prayer, and preparation while expressing taqwa through sincere service to the masjid and community.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Welcomes Ramadan as a time of multiplied reward and special merit for fasting.
- Frames Ramadan as the month of Quran, worship, taqwa, and disciplined focus.
- Connects Friday attendance with preparation, early arrival, appropriate dress, and front-row responsibility.
- Calls believers to maintain the masjid through small acts of service and cleanliness.
- Uses Bilal ibn Rabah and a humble masjid cleaner as examples of faithful service.
- Connects mosque service to American Muslim history and the legacy of community pioneers.
- Encourages Quran reading, night prayer, Laylat al-Qadr, the last ten nights, i'tikaf, and seeking forgiveness.
In the khateeb's words
“this is our month of reading this is our month of worship this is our month of getting into the basics of this beautiful religion”
“the masjid is the heart of the community and you are commanded to attend it at least once a week encourage to pray in it as often as possible”
“this message is not just a structure of brick and mortars it is built and sustained by our hearts in our hands”
“the doors of opportunity are always open and every believer every believer can find a way to serve”
For the dinner table
Ramadan is a special chance to strengthen our relationship with Allah through fasting, Quran, prayer, and sincere service. The khateeb reminded us that preparation matters: arrive at Jumu'ah ready and treat the masjid with care. Even small acts, picking up litter, welcoming a newcomer, organizing a space, helping with food, or supporting prayer, can carry great reward when done sincerely. We should also prepare for the last ten nights, seek Laylat al-Qadr, and ask Allah for forgiveness. Ramadan should shape both our worship and the way we care for our community.
- What is one Quran or worship goal you would like to try this Ramadan?
- What is one helpful thing you could do for someone at the masjid?
- How can our family prepare for the last ten nights together?
