Hijra means leaving sin for Allah
“Hijrah is protection from the fire.”
Hijra is an ongoing, intentional movement toward obedience, away from sin, and toward choices that preserve faith, family, justice, and reliance on Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reframes hijra from a historical migration into ongoing movement toward truth.
- Defines faith through action and everyday choices about work, relationships, worship, media, and community.
- Distinguishes spiritual hijra from physical relocation and urges leaving environments that threaten faith when possible.
- Connects hijra during tribulation with worship, intention, planning, practical means, and tawakkul.
- Uses the Ansar and Muhajirin relationship to call for generosity, solidarity, and communal care.
- Closes with Quranic guidance on migration, sacrifice, family protection, and prayers for oppressed people, including Gaza and Palestine.
In the khateeb's words
“Islam is not a passive admiration Islam is haraka movement hijra is haraka hijra is continuous movement to show your faith to show your iman”
“we need to be source of peace our tongue and our hand everyone is safe”
“islam is not an idea islam is a real life example to live it to practice it to implement it”
“hijrah is protection from the fire hijrah is safety hijrah is success hijrah is happiness and whatever you sacrifice for Allah Allah will give you so much in return”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that hijra is more than a journey from one city to another. It is the ongoing choice to move toward Allah through prayer, Quran, good company, honest work, family care, and reconciliation, while moving away from sin and harmful influences. We should plan carefully, take the available means, and then trust Allah with the result. The speaker also calls us to live like the Ansar by welcoming, sharing with, and caring for people in need, including suffering Muslims around the world. The family takeaway is to choose faith and goodness deliberately, even when that requires sacrifice.
- What is one small change that could be your hijra toward something better?
- How can our family make someone else feel welcomed and safe?
- What does good planning and trust in Allah look like together?
