Trust Allah through hardship and care for the masjid
“Take care of the house of Allah, and Allah will take care of you in the dunya and the akhirah.”
Life’s hardships should deepen taqwa and reliance on Allah, while faith is expressed through building, attending, and respectfully caring for the masjid.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Defines taqwa as reliance, submission, and trust during life’s tests.
- Uses Surah al-Duha to reassure believers that Allah does not abandon them.
- Explains three ways Allah may answer dua and calls for patience and trust.
- Presents masjids as beloved houses of Allah that believers should build and regularly attend.
- Gives practical etiquette for cleanliness, parking, prayer, quiet, rows, and facility care.
In the khateeb's words
“This life is a life of tests. It is hard and it's meant to be hard.”
“And Allah answers dua in three ways. The first way is to give you exactly what you want, when you want it, or soon after.”
“So make a personal commitment to come to the masjid to pray at least once a day. Participate in beneficial activities so these spaces remain vibrant rather than silent and empty.”
“take care of the house of Allah, and Allah will take care of you in the dunya and the akhirah.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that life’s difficulties are tests, not proof that Allah has abandoned us. We should keep taqwa, make dua, and trust that Allah may answer by giving what we ask, giving something better, preventing harm, or saving the reward for the Hereafter. The masjid is a beloved house of Allah, so we should help build it, attend it, and make it welcoming for children and the whole community. We can honor it through cleanliness, quiet voices, orderly parking and rows, and care for shared spaces. When we care for Allah’s house and one another, we hope for Allah’s care in this life and the next.
- When has a difficult moment helped you remember Allah?
- What is one way our family can help make the masjid welcoming?
- Which masjid habit should we practice more carefully?
