Honest self-accounting helps us repent

“Take yourselves to account before you are taken to account.”

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches that we often examine our money, reputation, and daily lives while neglecting our souls. Our souls can pull us toward wrong, and self-deception can make arrogance look like confidence, control look like love, and cruelty look like strength. The way forward is to notice these problems, stop the harmful behavior, feel genuine remorse, and ask whether our choices please Allah, fulfill our purpose, and strengthen faith. We should make time for honest self-accounting before a crisis forces us to wake up. The door of repentance remains open, so we should return to Allah and ask Him to purify and steady our hearts.
