Trust Allah and take responsibility
“We are inspired as Muslims not to run from doubt, not to flee from serious questions, but to push in and ask.”
Because Allah has guided Muslims into a prophetic community, they must turn tawhid from abstract belief into functional trust and responsibility through Quran, questions, community, family, and hopeful action amid uncertainty.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The speaker announces local programs and urges listeners to vote in city-council elections.
- He frames Muslims as a divinely guided community responsible for benefiting people and limiting harm.
- He explains functional tawhid as seeing worldly responsibilities through Allah rather than judging faith by possessions or status.
- He encourages mature engagement with doubts and serious questions, using knowledge of Allah to overcome fear of the unknown.
- He applies reliance on Allah to hijab, prayer, schools, current crises, grief, and communal hardship.
- He closes with a renewal plan centered on Quran, good friends, strong community, the masjid, young people, and family, followed by prayers.
In the khateeb's words
“we are inspired as muslims not to run from doubt not to flee from serious questions but to push in and ask”
“if i wear hijab i'm going to lose my friends leave it to Allah if on my athletic team i pray and they see me praying maybe i won't get that starting position leave it to Allah”
“our children are going to be those who when we're dead in the grave that is our residual income that we will continue to reap after we're gone”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that being Muslim is not just an idea; it is a responsibility to bring benefit and mercy to people. He encouraged us to renew our relationship with Allah through the Quran, honest questions, good friends, and a strong community, especially when the future feels frightening. We should trust Allah with what we cannot see while still doing our part in our families, schools, teams, and neighborhoods. He also urged the community to support the mosque, encourage young people, care for children, and participate in local civic life. In hard times, hope comes from knowing that Allah knows what we do not and is enough for us.
- What is one question about faith you would like to ask honestly?
- Where do you find it hardest to leave the unseen outcomes to Allah?
- What is one way our family can strengthen our community or support the masjid?
