Knowing Allah strengthens us through trials
“When you see the interchange of day and night it's a sign from Allah.”
Knowing Allah through the Quran, creation, His names, and His actions fills believers with love, guidance, strength, and resilience during life's trials.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces knowing Allah as one of the Ummah's greatest blessings alongside the Prophet's example.
- Distinguishes recognizing Allah's existence from knowing Him deeply enough to love Him.
- Explains knowing Allah through Quranic words, divine names and attributes, and Allah's actions.
- Develops Allah as Rabb, the intimate caretaker and guide through every stage of life.
- Urges reflection on Quranic signs, personal trials, nature, changing seasons, and life's provision.
In the khateeb's words
“when I find food on my table or when I find something to drink it's from Allah not from my bank account not from my paycheck from Allah”
“when you see a natural disaster it's a sign from Allah when you see the interchange of day and night it's a sign from Allah”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah invited us to make knowing Allah a lifelong journey of noticing, reflecting, and growing in love for Him. The khateeb explained that we can learn about Allah through the Quran, His names and attributes, and His actions in creation. He shared the example of a mother embracing her lost child and reminded us that Allah is even more merciful toward His servants. Allah is our Rabb, who cares for us through every stage of life, including times of difficulty and change. Even the food on our table and the changing seasons can remind us of Him and help us respond with gratitude and trust.
- What did you notice today that reminded you of Allah’s care?
- How could we show gratitude to Allah for tonight’s meal?
- What does the story of the mother finding her child help you understand about mercy?
