Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 25, 2026.
Iman must be renewed every day
“The reality of iman is that it wears out, it degrades in your hearts.”
In one sentence
Iman wears out and fluctuates like clothing, so a believer must constantly renew and maintain it through dua, engagement with the Qur'an, daily knowledge-seeking, struggling against the nafs, treating Shaytan as an enemy, and constant istighfar.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opening khutbat al-hajah with praise of Allah and the standard taqwa verses
- Hadith: iman wears out in the heart like clothes wear out, ask Allah to renew it
- The familiar cycle: Ramadan/Dhul-Hijjah zeal followed by off-season laxity
- Means of renewal 1: dua, the Prophet's most frequent supplication, 'ya muqallibal-qulub thabbit qalbi ala dinik'
- Means 2: relationship with the Qur'an, recitation increases iman; believers vs. hypocrites on hearing revelation; tadabbur not mere recitation
- Means 3: daily knowledge-seeking (one hadith or one ayah a day) and mujahadat an-nafs
- Closing salawat and congregational dua
Try this week
Ask Allah daily to renew the iman in your heart, using the Prophet's frequent dua 'ya muqallibal-qulub thabbit qalbi ala dinik'
Recite the Qur'an regularly and ponder its meanings (tadabbur), asking what Allah is commanding and prohibiting you
Learn or memorize something small every day, one hadith or one ayah, rather than studying only for a 'test'
Treat Shaytan as an active enemy; make disappointing him a daily goal
Stay in constant istighfar, especially in the early morning before Fajr (time of suhoor)
