Faith needs deeds, not family names

“Families do not make people pious.”

The khateeb, at 25:28

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that faith in our hearts should show in what we do. Prayer, fasting, and charity are essential, and good deeds also include telling the truth, being honest, and treating people well. Each of us is responsible for our own actions; having a righteous family or calling ourselves good is not enough. Staying on the right path takes continued effort, asking Allah for guidance and forgiveness, checking ourselves, and choosing good company. Together, we can practice our faith by helping people, speaking with care, and asking Allah to make our faith sincere and strong.

  1. What is one way you could practice honesty or kindness tomorrow?
  2. How does a good friend help you make better choices?
  3. What could you do or say to make someone’s day a little easier?
