Warning signs call us back to Allah
“The question is how prepared are we?”
The khutbah warns that Allah’s signs and the consequences of human moral disobedience are unfolding daily, so Muslims should fear Allah, prepare for death, and live with love and respect.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Calls all humanity and believers to fear Allah and die as Muslims.
- Uses Prophet Muhammad’s command to maintain taqwa to stress universal accountability.
- Reminds listeners that worldly life is brief and asks whether they are prepared.
- Connects moral viciousness and rejection of prophetic teachings to worldwide chaos.
- Presents wealth, disasters, and weapons of mass destruction as warning signs already unfolding.
In the khateeb's words
“The question is how prepared are we? How prepared are you and how prepared are I as we live in this dunya?”
“Allah gave us this small time, this small time, to come and live in this dunya, to show love to one another, to respect one another, but no.”
“Some of us have become vicious. Some of us have decided to go against the teachings of Musa alayhi sallam, to go against the teachings of the Qur'an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”
“Whether as a natural disaster or mankind who have decided to go the way of shaitan, to build weapons of mass destruction and to use it against another human being.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that life in this world is short and that Allah asks every person to live with taqwa, or reverent awareness of Him. The imam says that even Prophet Muhammad was told to fear Allah, so none of us should feel exempt from accountability. Wealth and children are temporary decorations, while loving and respecting others are part of how we should spend our limited time. He warns that rejecting prophetic guidance can contribute to viciousness, chaos, and destructive violence. The takeaway is to notice warning signs, prepare for the hereafter, and choose mercy and good deeds.
- What is one way we can show more love or respect this week?
- What does being prepared for the hereafter mean to you?
- What warning signs should make us pause and change our behavior?
