Parents must guide children with love

“When you love your child, first, you try always to make him close to you.”

The khateeb, at 20:37

In one sentence

Parents should treat children as an Allah-given trust by preparing a sound family, showing affection, modeling faith and character, and correcting mistakes with calm guidance rather than violence or indulgence.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Children are a blessing and responsibility from Allah, beginning with spouse selection before birth.
  2. Islamic guidance covers choosing religious, good-character spouses, protecting pregnancy, and welcoming newborns.
  3. Parents owe children a good name, Quran teaching, affection, time, and responsibility.
  4. Two harmful extremes are harsh violence and permissive pampering; love combines closeness with boundaries.
  5. Children learn from parents’ examples in prayer, speech, honesty, halal living, and family conduct.
  6. Gentle repeated correction, play, mercy, and dedicated time reflect the Prophet’s treatment of children.
Try this week
Choose spouses by religion and full character, not by prayer alone or surface qualities.
During pregnancy, protect the mother and fetus and provide good food and surroundings.
Welcome a newborn joyfully, choose a good name in the first week, perform aqeeqah, and accept parental responsibility.
Give young children affection through talking, kissing, hugging, verbal love, play, and regular time together.
Model prayer, masjid attendance, kindness, honesty, halal conduct, and respectful speech.
Correct mistakes calmly and repeatedly in a low voice; do not hit or scream.
Let children play, move, and run while correcting mistakes appropriately.
