Finish Ramadan with focused worship
“Deeds are not judged by their beginning; they're judged by their conclusion.”
The final ten nights of Ramadan should be treated as a focused opportunity for intensified worship and active family guidance toward Jannah through concrete congregational and personal practices.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The Prophet intensified worship and withdrew from worldly distractions during Ramadan’s last ten nights.
- Family ties require active guidance toward Jannah because blood and marriage alone do not guarantee salvation.
- Parents and older siblings shape faith through close relationships, teaching, and religious upbringing.
- Practical preparation includes avoiding daytime sins, attending Isha and Fajr in congregation, staying with the imam, and making dua in sujood.
- Ibn al-Jawzi’s racehorse metaphor urges believers to finish Ramadan with exceptional effort and hope for Laylat al-Qadr.
In the khateeb's words
“the nights are not for socializing they're not for conversing they're not for hanging out with a lot of us we did that in the past 15 days”
“if you want Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to allow you to be able to do things at night do not forsake Him during the day”
“deeds are not judged by their beginning they're judged by their conclusion by their end”
For the dinner table
The khateeb encouraged us to give the last ten nights of Ramadan extra care, following the Prophet’s example of focused worship and waking his family. He reminded us to put distractions aside and help our loved ones grow closer to Allah. Through the story of Yaqub and Yusuf, he emphasized spending time with children and giving them guidance they can remember when facing difficult choices. He also encouraged older siblings to support younger ones through challenges they understand. His practical suggestions included avoiding sins during the day, attending Isha and Fajr in congregation, staying until the imam finishes, and preparing dua for sujood. He ended with hope: even if the beginning of Ramadan was difficult, we can still make a strong effort as it ends.
- What could help you put distractions aside and focus during prayer?
- How could we help one another grow closer to Allah this week?
- What is one thing you would like to ask Allah for tonight?
