Flee to Allah before it is too late
“A heart connected to Allah has everything.”
Because everyone is headed toward the Day of Judgment, believers should treat worldly affairs steadily, hasten toward good deeds, and urgently flee to Allah through repentance, remembrance, service, and trust.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Opens with praise and prayers, then introduces Surah At-Takweer’s frightening description of the Day of Judgment.
- Uses the question “where are you going?” to recalibrate priorities toward the Hereafter.
- Contrasts walking toward worldly provision with rushing and racing toward good deeds.
- Centers the Quranic command to flee toward Allah as urgent movement toward safety and guidance.
- Presents Imam al-Razi’s reflections on prompt repentance, avoiding distraction, and seeking refuge in Allah.
- Uses al-Qushayri’s reflections to connect fleeing toward Allah with knowledge, remembrance, service, gratitude, and dependence on Him.
- Concludes with supplications, blessings upon the Prophet, and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“the tragedy of our times is that we make the fleeting dunya our primary objective and you and I have to be reminded that Allah exists that spirituality matters that the hereafter is coming”
“but when it comes to Allah regardless of where you are physically regardless of where you are emotionally regardless of where you are health wise a heart connected to Allah has everything and someone distant from Allah has lost everything”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah asked us to think about where we are going and how we are preparing to return to Allah. The khateeb explained that reminders of the Day of Judgment should help us put our priorities in order and use our time wisely. We should work, learn, and provide for our families while giving greater urgency to good deeds and the hereafter. He encouraged us to flee toward Allah by asking forgiveness without delay, learning our religion, and remembering Him. We can put this into practice by caring for others and recognizing that our opportunities to do good are gifts from Allah.
- What good deed could you do today that you have been putting off?
- What is one thing about Islam you would like us to learn together?
- How could we make someone's day easier as a family this week?
