Ramadan should make us people of taqwa
“They ask Allah to forgive them.”
Ramadan should be evaluated by whether it made us people of taqwa who give generously, control anger, forgive others, and repent quickly after sin.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens with Qur'anic recitation and introduces Jannah as prepared for the muttaqeen.
- Explains that taqwa includes giving in both ease and hardship.
- Teaches swallowing anger through Qur'anic guidance and the Prophet's repeated advice not to get angry.
- Presents forgiving others as a defining quality of taqwa, illustrated by a man promised Jannah.
- Explains that muttaqeen may slip but remember Allah, seek forgiveness, and avoid persisting in sin.
- Urges listeners to preserve Ramadan's gains in Shawwal and closes with prayers for forgiveness and oppressed communities.
In the khateeb's words
“the point is that what? they're still giving out it becomes a character of their selves that they don't try to avoid donation boxes”
“if you could master this one thing subhanAllah you can do great things in your life it'll help your marriage it'll help your relationship with your children”
“and if anyone has done anything to me then I have forgiven them and I do that every single night”
“Remember Allah immediately. And what? They ask Allah to forgive them. and they don't go back to that sin again.”
For the dinner table
After Ramadan, we should ask whether the month helped us become people of taqwa, not only whether we completed its routines. The sermon highlighted four signs: giving in ease and hardship, swallowing anger, forgiving others, and turning quickly to Allah after mistakes. Taqwa does not mean never slipping; it means remembering Allah, asking forgiveness, and refusing to persist in sin. We can carry Ramadan forward by checking these qualities in our spending, family relationships, and private hearts. The khutbah ended by asking Allah to make us among the muttaqeen and to help suffering communities.
- What is one small way we can give or help someone this week, even when we have little?
- What helps you pause and swallow your anger before speaking?
- What does forgiving someone in your heart look like?
