Teaching faith keeps it alive across generations
“Al-aqeedah means everything we believe in.”
A strong Islamic creed must shape daily conduct and be intentionally taught by parents so faith endures across generations.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces Islam through belief, worship, and moral character, then focuses on aqeedah.
- Defines aqeedah and tawheed, including tawheed’s three components.
- Contrasts theoretical belief with practical faith shown through conduct.
- Uses examples of Musa, Ibrahim, Muhammad, and Bilal to illustrate steadfastness.
- Addresses atheistic doubts and parents’ responsibility to teach children faith.
- Concludes with husn al-khatimah, generational continuity, announcements, and supplications.
In the khateeb's words
“Al-aqeedah means everything we believe in So our belief in Allah azza wa jal, in the angels, in the prophets”
“We should not expect The masjid To do our job We should not expect The Islamic school Or the weekend school To do our job”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught that Islam is lived through belief, worship, and character, with special focus on aqeedah, our beliefs. Tawheed means recognizing Allah as the only Creator, the only One worthy of worship, and the One known through His names and attributes. True faith should appear in daily life through good speech, kindness to neighbors, courage, and trust in Allah during hardship. Parents have the first responsibility to teach this faith at home, while the masjid and Islamic schools support them. The goal is to remain Muslim until death and pass strong faith to the next generation.
- What is one way our belief in Allah can change how we treat people this week?
- Which story from the khutbah would help you handle fear or pressure?
- How can our family practice teaching and strengthening iman at home?
