In the khateeb's words
“Oh Habib, we are with you, our arms are with you, our horses are with you.”
“Habib al-Mazahir returns alone. Having fought a battle, returns alone to Imam al-Hussein.”
“I can't take it anymore. It's not possible that I stay alive.”
“Oh Habib, it is so difficult for me today that I see your face drenched in blood and sand, but I have no water to wash you with today.”
For the dinner table
The gathering began with Surah Ya-Sin, reminding us of God’s power, resurrection, and our accountability. A long prayer asked God for forgiveness, mercy, and the strength to spend our lives in His remembrance and service. The stories of Ali Akbar and Habib ibn Madahir showed the deep grief of Karbala and the importance of courage and loyalty. Habib’s example especially challenges us not to abandon the righteous when hardship arrives. We can honor these lessons by repenting, remembering God, and standing faithfully with people who need support.
- What does keeping a promise look like when life becomes difficult?
- Which part of Habib’s story best shows courage to you?
- How can we turn remembrance into one act of service this week?
