Imam Qaisar Shabir reminded us to let the Prophet’s teachings shape our character and our everyday lives. He called for spiritual change within ourselves and together as a community, beginning with an honest look at our own actions. He warned against praying or giving just to win praise, and encouraged continued giving with humility. He asked us to put aside our ego when dealing with people, wish good for others, and remain firm in justice and truth. Through the story of a parrot escaping its cage, he encouraged us to leave behind what keeps us away from Allah and move toward what gives us spiritual life.

  1. What could help you wish something good for someone when you feel jealous or annoyed?
  2. If a distracting habit were a cage, what small step could help you get out?
