Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jun 6, 2026.

Taqwa should shape every choice

“As soon as I make a mistake, I should feel a level of remorse and regret.”

The khateeb, at 22:32

In one sentence

Taqwa is an ongoing awareness of Allah that should shape every choice, lead believers to repent and follow mistakes with good deeds, and appear in beautiful character toward others.

The khutbah in 4 steps

  1. Defines taqwa as internalized awareness of Allah’s presence, knowledge, and accountability.
  2. Explains that taqwa produces obedience, restraint, and God-consciousness in every setting, not just the mosque.
  3. Clarifies that imperfect believers should respond to sin with remorse, repentance, istighfar, and a good deed.
  4. Connects taqwa to responsibilities toward Allah and expands the message to responsibilities toward people through beautiful character.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah shared three pieces of advice: remember Allah wherever we are, follow a bad deed with a good deed, and treat people with beautiful character. Remembering that Allah hears and sees us can help guide our words and choices at home, at school, and everywhere else. Having taqwa does not mean being perfect; when we make mistakes, we can feel regret, ask Allah for forgiveness, and sincerely resolve to stop. The khateeb encouraged us to seek forgiveness every day and follow our mistakes with good deeds, such as helping someone or giving charity. He also reminded us that kindness and gentleness matter deeply, especially with our families, and that simple changes can make a profound difference.

  1. What could help you remember Allah when you feel angry?
  2. What good deed could you do after making a mistake?
