How Shaytan leads us into sin
“We're going to be taking stair steps, so we have to protect ourselves from even taking that first step.”
The khutbah teaches that Shaytan uses recognizable tactics such as forgetfulness, anger, whispers, gradual temptation, false promises, fear, and beautified sin, and urges believers to resist through awareness, worship, and seeking refuge in Allah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames Quranic knowledge of Shaytan's tactics as protection against spiritual 'scams.'
- Explains forgetfulness and exploitation of weakness as openings to wrongdoing.
- Discusses anger, whispers, suspicion, jealousy, and identifying intrusive thoughts.
- Warns that Shaytan leads people gradually toward major sins.
- Covers false promises, immobilizing fear, and making sins appear attractive.
- Concludes with protection through sincerity, dua, Quran, dhikr, seeking refuge, and taqwa.
In the khateeb's words
“even though your anger may be justified for whatever reason you might think shaytan will cause you to get so angry to a point you will do or say something that will make you regret for the entire life subhanallah”
“shaitan will not take us point A to point B miraculously we're going to be taking stair steps so we have to protect ourselves from even taking that first step inshallah”
“if you don't give sadaqah today then you will never be able to give it again”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah compared Shaytan’s tactics to scam calls that work because people do not recognize the pattern. Shaytan may make us forget a good deed, exploit weakness or anger, plant suspicion, lead us gradually toward sin, make empty promises, create paralyzing fear, or make wrongdoing look attractive. The khateeb reminded us that a sudden thought that shocks us may be a whisper rather than our true desire, and that we should not follow the first step toward wrongdoing. We can protect ourselves through sincerity, dua, Quran, dhikr, seeking refuge in Allah, and beginning actions with bismillah. The message is to recognize the tricks, stay mindful of Allah, and control our tongues and choices.
- What is one small first step you can stop before it grows into a bigger wrong choice?
- What helps you calm down when anger starts to take over?
- Which habit, dua, Quran, dhikr, or saying bismillah, would you like to practice this week?
