Shaytan misleads people through gradual tactics
“Don't think he's gonna give you the weekend off.”
Shaytan is a relentless, strategic enemy who uses long-term plans and gradual tactics to mislead people, so believers must know his strategies and defend themselves through taqwa, remembrance of Allah, and consistent worship.
The khutbah in 10 steps
- Opening praise and declaration that the lifelong battle with Shaytan continues after Ramadan
- Shaytan as a clear, invested enemy who studied Adam and works without breaks
- Historical example: how statues of righteous people in Nuh's time gradually led to idol worship
- Shaytan's tactics: tazyeen (beautifying evil), tasweel (rationalization), and internal whispering
- Gradual escalation from halal distractions to makruh, minor sins, major sins, bid'ah, and shirk
- Deeds Shaytan hates: Quran recitation, night prayer, the adhan, bismillah before eating, dhikr when entering home
- The Jurhum story and reassurance that Shaytan's plots are weak against people of iman
- The formula of success from the Quran: taqwa plus immediate remembrance when tempted
- Hadith of Iblis' throne and troops, where separating husband and wife earns highest rank
- Call to prepare day and night through good deeds, followed by closing dua
In the khateeb's words
“shaitan is on a mission shaitan he is strategic he's not playing around he's all in he's invested in this battle but many of us are are distracted we're not paying attention”
“he can work on a five-year plan to try to get someone to fall in a major sin knowing that once they fall they are more likely to fall again easier and easier”
“don't think he's gonna give you the weekend off don't think he has holidays day after day and hour after hour he's there plotting against you”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that Shaytan is a real, patient enemy who never takes a day off. He studied Adam from the beginning, and he plans for years, sometimes centuries, the way he slowly turned statues of righteous people into idols that people worshipped. His tricks include making bad things look attractive, helping us make excuses, and whispering from inside our own hearts, starting with small distractions before leading to bigger sins. But Allah told us all of Shaytan's strategies in advance, and the Quran gives us the winning formula: stay mindful of Allah, and the moment temptation whispers, remember Allah immediately so you can see clearly again. Simple habits protect us, saying bismillah before eating, remembering Allah when we come home, reading Quran, and praying at night. The battle is daily, but Allah promises that Shaytan's plots are weak for those who stay close to Him.
- What is one 'harmless' thing that could slowly become a bad habit if we are not careful?
- What do you do or say right when you feel tempted to do something wrong?
- Why do you think Shaytan is happiest when he breaks up a family?
