Sin is human, but excuses destroy faith

“It is very human to sin.”

The khateeb, at 10:20

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that everyone makes mistakes, and that we can keep turning back to Allah. Adam and Hawa showed humility by admitting they had wronged themselves and asking for forgiveness, while Iblis responded with pride. The khateeb encouraged us to take responsibility instead of defending our wrongdoing, and to remember Allah and seek His mercy. He emphasized that Allah’s forgiveness is vast, so shame should lead us toward Him rather than leave us feeling hopeless. As we ask Allah to forgive us, we should also practice mercy, forgiveness, and gentleness with the people around us.

  1. What could you say after making a mistake that shows honesty and humility?
  2. What helps you remember that you can turn to Allah when you feel ashamed?
  3. How could we show more gentleness to one another at home this week?
