Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Sep 25, 2026.

Fear accountability and restrain your desires

“If you spend your entire life chasing after every desire, every wish, every whim, eventually you'll tire yourself out and you'll have nothing to show for it.”

The khateeb, at 18:57

In one sentence

Because everyone will stand before Allah, believers should fear that accountability in a way that restrains harmful desires, balances love and hope, and produces steady righteous action.

  3. Defines healthy fear as remembering accountability and using it to abandon sin.
  4. Exposes open and hidden forms of desire-driven injustice, pride, and pursuit of recognition.

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminds us that this life is a journey, not our final home. One day we will stand before Allah, so remembering that day should help us step away from sin and choose what is right. Our desires are not all bad, but we must guide them instead of letting them guide us into injustice, pride, or harm. We can begin each day with good resolve, be patient when tempted, remember the lasting outcome, and keep purifying our hearts through our actions. Even when we slip, we keep moving toward Allah with love, fear, and hope in His mercy.

  1. What is one desire you can practice saying no to this week?
  2. How can remembering the afterlife change one choice you make today?
  3. What would it look like to purify your heart through your actions?
