Hardship and happiness are both tests
“The correct mindset is you have to see them as the test.”
Believers should treat both hardship and prosperity as tests, strengthen their iman through trust, remembrance, gratitude, and obedience, and actively guide their families toward Islam.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Life’s highs and lows are tests, and mindset determines whether people respond with faith or despair.
- Belief in qadar should replace counterfactual overthinking while encouraging effort and tawakkul.
- Prophets Ayyub and Yunus demonstrate patience, supplication, and remembrance during illness and darkness.
- Wealth and happiness are also tests, as shown by Dawud’s continued worship and fasting.
- Listeners are urged to practice gratitude, seek guidance, honor parents, nurture children’s Islam, give sadaqah, and make dua.
In the khateeb's words
“the biggest failure the biggest failure is nothing but the wrong way of your mindset and the correct mindset is you have to see them as the test”
“we cannot control what's going to be happen tomorrow we cannot control what already happened in the past but you and i can do something for our present right now”
“encourage them to learn more about al-qur'an to learn about islam spend more time with them”
For the dinner table
This khutbah teaches that both sorrow and success are tests from Allah, so our main goal is to protect and strengthen our iman. The prophets faced loss, illness, darkness, and great wealth, yet they responded with patience, remembrance, gratitude, and trust in Allah. We cannot change the past or control tomorrow, but we can use today for prayer, dhikr, good deeds, and helpful choices. Parents should stay close to their children, guide them toward Qur’an and Islam, listen with love, and support them through dua and sadaqah.
- What is one challenge you can bring to Allah through dua this week?
- How can our family make more time for Qur’an or remembrance?
- What does honoring your parents look like in one small action?
