Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 3, 2026.
Recognize Shaytan and resist his traps
In one sentence
Because Shaytan gradually leads people toward sin and disbelief, believers must recognize him as an enemy and defend themselves through faith, remembrance, Quran, supplication, repentance, and steadfastness.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces Iblis's ancient enmity toward Adam and humanity.
- Explains Shaytan's strategy of gradual steps, traps, and normalized sin.
- Illustrates that strategy through Ibn Kathir's story of Bar-Siyusat.
- Warns that Shaytan ultimately disowns those who follow him on Judgment Day.
- Presents iman, tawheed, tawakkul, dhikr, Quran, du'a, and isti'adha as defenses.
- Calls listeners to repent, remember Allah, increase worship, and remain steadfast.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“He knows that you are a believer. You are a Muslim. So he takes baby steps. He comes to you gradually.”
“if shaytan has his weapons in his hands, then do you think that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, who only wants the best for us, will leave us helpless without providing us with weapons?”
“These are the weapons of iman in the heart, of tawheed, a strong perception of the oneness of Allah in your heart.”
“don't let your greatest enemy to become your best friend, recognize his tricks.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that Shaytan is an old enemy who tries to pull people away from Allah through small, gradual compromises. He does not force us, but whispers suggestions and makes wrong choices look attractive. Allah has given us protection through faith, trusting Him, remembering Him, reading and understanding the Quran, making du'a, seeking refuge from Shaytan, and returning to Him in repentance. This week, our family can notice small temptations and answer them by turning back to Allah and choosing what is good.
- What small temptation can we notice earlier and resist this week?
- Which way of remembering Allah helps you feel strongest?
- What could “breaking those chains” look like in our family?
