The khateeb, at 12:39

Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah was about the Battle of Uhud, a hard day when many Muslims were killed. Afterward, some hypocrites told the grieving believers, 'If only they had stayed home with us, they would still be alive.' Allah answered that it is He alone who gives life and decrees death. From these ayat in Surah Al-Imran the khateeb gave us four lessons: don't fall into the 'if only' or 'what if' trap, and always do the right thing even when it makes life harder for a while. Third, earn Allah's forgiveness through good deeds, by asking Him to forgive us, and by saying sorry to anyone we have hurt. Fourth, remember that in the end only Allah will judge us, with perfect justice, so His standard is the one we live by.

  1. Have you ever done the right thing and had it make your day harder? What happened?
  2. When was a time you said 'I'm sorry, how can I make it up to you?' to someone, or wish you had?
  3. If Allah's forgiveness is the greatest treasure, what's one good deed you could do this week to earn it?
