Trust Allah through hardship and uncertainty
“Allah being with you may mean that you may not get the outcome that you want because He knows what is better for you.”
Allah's special help is experienced by those who trust Him while cultivating taqwa, good deeds, and patience, and it may guide them through hardship even when the outcome differs from what they hoped.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces the deeper meaning of saying that Allah is with us during hardship.
- Uses Musa's escape from Pharaoh to show trust before a visible solution and guidance through the sea.
- Uses the Prophet Muhammad's cave experience to illustrate reassurance, tranquility, and unseen aid.
- Identifies taqwa, excellence in good deeds, and patience as qualities connected to Allah's help.
- Applies the message to personal and communal trials, emphasizing worship, practical effort, and acceptance of Allah's wisdom.
In the khateeb's words
“when we see ourselves in trouble we have to believe that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala not only will make a path for me but He will be there every single step along the way until I'm through with this problem”
“Allah being with you may mean that you may not get the outcome that you want because He knows what is better for you”
“I'm gonna do my part I'm gonna hit the sea I'm gonna hide where I need to hide”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that saying “Allah is with me” should be more than a habit; it should shape how we face fear and uncertainty. The stories of Musa and the Prophet Muhammad show people trusting Allah before they could see how help would come. Allah's help is connected to taqwa, doing good beyond the minimum, and patience in hardship and obedience. Trusting Allah does not always mean getting the result we wanted, but it means Allah guides and cares for us through the trial. We should keep worshipping, do our part, and ask Allah to make us among the God-conscious, those who do good, and the patient.
- What does doing our part look like when we are worried?
- How can we practice patience in our family and school or work lives?
- Why might Allah's help look different from getting exactly what we want?
