Muslims need knowledge to rebuild
“No ummah becomes strong without investing in its intellect.”
The khutbah argues that the Muslim community can rebuild through respectful disagreement, serious education, grounded scholarship, stronger institutions, and communication that engages today’s world.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Healthy disagreement among the Companions and within fiqh should not become division or accusations of disbelief.
- The Qur’an presents human difference as intentional, requiring wisdom, kind advice, and respectful dialogue.
- Knowledge and education are foundational to building strong individuals, societies, and Muslim civilization.
- Muslims should master worldly tools and take responsibility for representing Islam accurately in academic and public spaces.
- Communities need balanced scholarship that distinguishes legitimate ijtihad from reckless reinterpretation and knows when to say “I don’t know.”
- The khutbah calls for stronger scholars, relevant institutions, educated youth, and clearer contemporary communication.
In the khateeb's words
“It is in our ability to differ within reason and with respect”
“That no ummah becomes strong without investing in its intellect”
“We haven't trained enough people who can represent Islam well”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that Muslims can sincerely disagree about some details without treating one another as outside the faith. Our shared foundations are the Qur’an, Sunnah, justice, mercy, dignity, and truth, and differences should be handled with wisdom and respect. The speaker urged the community to take education seriously, strengthen institutions, and train scholars and representatives who understand Islam and can explain it wisely in today’s world. He also reminded us that real scholarship includes humility, including saying “I don’t know” when necessary. We can respond by learning from reliable teachers, investing in knowledge, and joining constructive community programs.

- How can you disagree respectfully with a friend?
- How would you describe Islam’s mercy and balance to someone who has never learned about it?
