Return to Allah and live with taqwa
“Whatever mistake you made, you raise your hand and say, Allah, I'm returning back to you.”
Because Allah created every being with a nature and purpose, humans, uniquely given choice and fitrah, must align their lives with the Quran, return to Allah, establish prayer, and cultivate taqwa.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces taqwa and Allah's creation of every being with a distinct nature and purpose.
- Compares angels, animals, mountains, jinn, and humans, emphasizing that humans uniquely possess choice.
- Explains fitrah through the Quran, Prophet Muhammad's guidance, and Surah al-Rum 30:30.
- Urges believers to return to Allah, establish prayer, perform righteous actions, and guard what they hear and absorb.
- Uses Surah al-An'am 6:151, 153 to present commands about worship, family, justice, life, property, and promises.
- Closes with prayers for understanding Islam, Muslim unity, victory for those fighting for their rights, and acceptance of good deeds.
In the khateeb's words
“The purpose of living is to Worship Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
“Allah created the Quran for us And then created the man To match the Quran So nothing in the Quran You cannot do”
“Every Mu'min needs to focus on Turn back to Allah Whatever mistake you made You raise your hand and say Allah I'm returning back to you And go back to correct yourself”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that Allah created every part of creation with a nature and purpose. Human beings are special because Allah gave us choice, and our purpose is to worship Him. The Quran and the example of Prophet Muhammad show us how to live according to the fitrah Allah placed within us. When we make mistakes, we should return to Allah, pray, build taqwa, and correct our behavior. We should learn the Quran, share its guidance wisely, and follow its commands about justice, family, life, promises, and caring for the vulnerable.
- What is one good choice you can make with the freedom Allah gave you this week?
- What helps you come back to Allah when you make a mistake?
- Which Quran lesson would you like to understand better?
