True faith survives doubt and hardship
“Nothing of this world can take it away.”
True iman and yaqeen must be strengthened through remembrance of the Hereafter and protected against worldly attachment, doubt, temptation, and hardship.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reminds listeners that worldly life is brief and urges taqwa and preparation for meeting Allah.
- Introduces the stories of Musa, Pharaoh, Pharaoh's wife, the believing man from Pharaoh's family, and Pharaoh's sorcerers.
- Explains how Pharaoh's sorcerers recognized Musa's miracle and immediately embraced faith.
- Presents their defiance of Pharaoh's threats as an example of firm iman and yaqeen.
- Warns that Shaytan misguides through doubts and uncontrolled desires, producing confusion, addiction, and moral corruption.
- Calls believers to hold firmly to Islam and concludes with prayers for Muslims, the deceased, Gaza, and Sudan.
In the khateeb's words
“the child of Adam, He lives in the world and acts like he will live forever. And when he dies, He is forgotten as if he never existed.”
“Our belief in Allah and the truth and in Akhirah is greater than this world.”
“Nothing of this world can take it away. No temptation, no fear, no distress. No distraction.”
“Iman is the absolute truth, it is the reality.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that our strength comes from Allah and that our short time in this world is an opportunity to prepare to meet Him. The imam told the story of Firaun’s sorcerers, who recognized the truth when they witnessed Musa’s miracle and became believers. Even when Firaun threatened them, they held firmly to their faith and placed their hope in the Akhirah, the life to come. The imam encouraged us to strengthen our iman through learning and to guide our desires with good values and discipline. As a family, we can help one another remember Allah, do good deeds, and stay steady when doing what is right feels difficult.
- What helps you tell the truth when you feel pressure to fit in?
- How could we keep screen time from crowding out things that help our faith grow?
