Knowing Allah shapes worship and character
“The more sound knowledge people have about Allah, the more fear they would have of Allah with understanding.”
Knowing Allah through His revealed names and attributes is the highest knowledge and should shape worship, character, humility, hope, and fear.

- Defines encompassing the 99 names as learning, understanding, invoking, praising, and acting upon them.
- Applies the names through mercy, generosity, humility, hope, fear, and submission.
- Concludes with supplication for Qur'an-centered guidance and sound faith.
In the khateeb's words
“The more sound knowledge people have about Allah, the more fear they would have of Allah with understanding.”
“Thus, an individual can train himself to be merciful and generous, in ways that befit him as a created being.”
“One should hope to obtain from Allah what these names indicate.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that the greatest knowledge is knowing Allah, because we were created to worship Him. We learn Allah's names and attributes from the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, and we should not invent names for Him. Understanding the 99 names means more than memorizing them: we should know their meanings, call upon Allah through them, and let them shape our worship and character. We can practice mercy and generosity while responding to Allah's greatness with humility, hope, and fear. The khutbah ends by asking Allah to make the Qur'an the springtime of our hearts and guide us to live with sound faith.
- Which name of Allah do you remember, and what does it teach you?
- What is one way we can show mercy or generosity this week?
- How can we practice humility when we pray or make decisions?
