Hardship can raise the believer
“Difficulties in our lives are meant to bring us up.”
The Isra and Mi'raj teaches that hardship is a path through which Allah elevates people, and that the Ummah can overcome trials by remaining connected to Him through salah, patience, faith, and fitrah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Isra and Mi'raj followed severe hardship, showing that struggle gives meaning to ease and hope.
- The Prophet faced the boycott and starvation at Shi'b Abi Talib, the deaths of Abu Talib and Khadijah, assassination threats, and rejection at Ta'if.
- Allah highlighted the Prophet's greatness through Addas, the angel of the mountains, the jinn, and the heavenly ascent.
- Salah was given as a divine link and source of elevation amid personal, family, financial, health, and communal difficulties.
- Jerusalem, fitrah, and the Prophet's leadership of the messengers connect Isra and Mi'raj to the Ummah's continuing mission.
- Believers should remain patient and trust that oppression, hardship, and sacrifice are never forgotten by Allah.
In the khateeb's words
“difficulties in our lives don't bring us down unless we let them difficulties in our lives are meant to bring us up”
“we believe in the lessons of al-isra wal-mi'raj things may be delayed but Allah never neglects”
For the dinner table
The khateeb explained that the Prophet's Isra and Mi'raj came after years of boycott, loss, rejection, and pain. Those struggles did not mean Allah had abandoned him; they became the setting in which his greatness and Allah's support were shown. The gift of salah reminds us to stay connected to Allah when work, school, family, health, or community life feels difficult. We should be patient, keep our faith alive, and trust that injustice and hardship do not last forever. Our sacrifices are not forgotten, and our goal is to meet Allah with a soul strengthened by the struggle.
- What is one hard thing that might help you grow closer to Allah?
- How does salah help you when you feel worried or overwhelmed?
- Why should we keep hope when justice seems delayed?
