Patience can turn hardship into guidance
“The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam gave us a great lesson about how to control your anger.”
Muslims should remain patient and hopeful through hardship while using their different strengths to support Islam, practice prophetic character, and invite others toward faith.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Recounts persecution faced by early Muslims and calls for steadfastness amid Islamophobia and atrocities.
- Presents Mus'ab ibn Umayr as an example of sacrifice, diplomacy, and outreach.
- Shows how the Prophet's patience and restraint led Thumamah to embrace Islam and support Muslims economically.
- Urges listeners to invite non-Muslims to the mosque open house, study the seerah and Quran, and share lessons with family.
- Closes with Quran recitation and prayers for a brother undergoing surgery and for suffering Muslims.
In the khateeb's words
“we always remain with hope and being steadfast in our deen and our religion”
“the prophet sallallahu alayhi wasallam gave us a great lesson about how to control your anger and about how to perform a dawah in the time of the hardships and difficulties”
“we should always preach for islam you never know who's going to accept the message”
“please bring these people you can learn more about islam and also we have to learn about the seerah of the prophet”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that faith can require patience, especially when Muslims face hostility or suffering. The speaker shared how Mus'ab ibn Umayr used diplomacy and how Thumamah ibn al-Athal was changed by the Prophet’s patience and self-control. We each have different strengths that can support Islam and our community. We were encouraged to invite guests to the mosque open house, learn from the seerah and Quran, and share one lesson with our families this week. We also ended by praying for people who are ill and suffering.
- Where can we practice patience when someone disagrees with us?
- What is one lesson from the Prophet’s seerah we can share this week?
- What strength can each of us use to help others?
