Trust Allah through every hardship
“You're either getting what you want when you want it, or it is delayed till a time that it is better for you.”
A deep, trusting relationship with Allah transforms hardship into optimism and inspires believers to treat others with patience, kindness, and care.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The Prophet's severe hardships contrasted with his continual optimism.
- Allah's generosity means sincere supplication is never truly wasted.
- Delayed or unanswered prayers may protect believers or bring greater reward.
- Believers should reject the idea that their best days are behind them.
- Optimism should shape everyday conduct within the Muslim community.
In the khateeb's words
“That it was his deep understanding and his deep connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that allowed him and encouraged him to do that.”
“You're either getting what you want when you want it, or it is delayed till a time that it is better for you”
“Smile in people's faces. Hold the door open for people as you're leaving.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that the Prophet remained optimistic despite enormous hardship because of his deep connection with Allah. When we make dua, Allah may answer immediately, delay the answer for our good, or protect us from something harmful while rewarding our patience. Our best days are not necessarily behind us, because Allah promises a better future and the lasting joy of Jannah. We should share that hope with others by being calm, considerate, welcoming, and careful not to harm people.
- What is one difficult thing you can trust Allah with?
- What could you do this week to make someone in our community feel welcome?
- How can we stay hopeful when life feels hard?
