Trials reveal whether we follow truth
In one sentence
The khutbah argues that believers should expect continual trials, purify their motives toward Allah and truth, and act faithfully even when worldly outcomes are uncertain.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Good and evil coexist in this world as an ongoing divine test ending in return to Allah.
- The persecution and repeated battles faced by the early Muslim community show that comfort does not end testing.
- Trials reveal whether people follow truth or their own desires, and neither victory nor defeat is permanently complete.
- A believer’s struggle must serve Allah’s truth rather than personal land, status, comfort, or revenge.
- The story of Musa illustrates how oppression is reframed as a dispute over land instead of justice and salvation.
- Sincere efforts remain preserved for the Day of Judgment, followed by reminders about parking, neighbors, and community projects.
Try this week
When the masjid parking lot is full, park at Brank Berry Farm only and avoid street parking.
Follow the directions of parking attendants instead of choosing an open spot independently.
Respect the neighbors by entering and leaving the area respectfully.
Buy lunch to help finance masjid operations.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“Sometimes the Khair has an upper hand. Sometimes the Shahr has an upper hand. But no victory is ever complete. And no defeat is ever permanent.”
“And so nothing is lost. Don't ever think your efforts are going to wane. They are being converted into something permanent. That you will be able to see on the day of judgment.”
“It's not just about you. It's a whole community here and we all have to get in and park so we can get out.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that life includes both good times and difficult tests, even for people with strong faith. Success and hardship do not last forever, and this world is not where our final reward or punishment is given. When we face conflict, we have an opportunity to follow what is true instead of simply following our wishes. He encouraged us to make our intentions sincere and seek a purpose greater than our own comfort or status. Our honest efforts are not lost with Allah, so we can keep doing good even when we cannot see the results.
- When has doing the right thing been different from doing what you wanted?
- How could we help someone this week without seeking praise?
- What good effort would you like to keep making, even if progress feels slow?
