Do your part and trust Allah
“What belongs to us is the effort.”
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The sermon urges hope, patience, and trust in Allah during communal setbacks and anti-Muslim hostility.
- Muslims are reminded to focus on daily family and community contributions rather than symbolic political developments.
- Time, devices, posts, likes, and online influence are described as an amanah requiring careful stewardship.
- The concept of mizan calls for balanced thinking and caution toward sensational claims about Quranic scientific miracles.
- The true goal is the audience of one: Allah, whose approval matters more than headlines or algorithms.
- Knowledge must lead to action, humility, service, and positive change, followed by prayers for suffering communities and individuals.
Try this week
Keep making sincere efforts in personal, family, and community life while leaving results to Allah.
Review one’s daily contribution and identify opportunities to create positive change.
Treat posts, likes, hearts, devices, time, and online influence as amanah.
Pause before sharing sensational claims, emotional reactions, or possible misinformation.
Live the Qur’an through ethical example rather than relying on forced scientific-miracle arguments.
Seek knowledge, act upon it, and cultivate humility and service.
Focus actions on Allah’s pleasure rather than public approval or attention.
Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“What belongs to Allah is to affect things, to make things happen. To give results. What belongs to us is the effort.”
“What really matters for us is what we, what you and I do in our daily lives. The kind of change that we bring about in our community, in our families.”
“Now with a swipe and a click, your ideas could go far and wide.”
“Instead of making us arrogant, they should all lead us towards more humility.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Imam Zia reminded us that the peace treaty of Hudaybiyyah teaches patience, compassion, and hope even when things seem disappointing. Our responsibility is to make sincere efforts and trust Allah with the results, while continuing to help our families and communities. He described our time and devices as trusts from Allah, reminding us that even a like or a share can spread something helpful or harmful. He encouraged us to think calmly, keep learning with humility, and put what we know into practice. Above all, he called us to do good for Allah's pleasure and use each day for kindness, worship, and service.
- What disappointment could you approach with more patience and hope this week?
- What could you ask yourself before liking or sharing a post?
- What is one thing you learned today that you could turn into a kind action?
