Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 18, 2026.

Shaytan leads people through gradual temptation

“Sometimes you have to lower your pride.”

The khateeb, at 29:06

In one sentence

Shaytan operates through patient, gradual whisperings and step-by-step temptations, so Muslims must recognize his footsteps, guard their boundaries, and remain anchored in Allah's guidance.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Opening dua for the oppressed worldwide and for protection from hypocrisy
  2. Shaytan as Allah's declared enemy who uses gradual whisperings (waswasa)
  3. Quranic warning: on Judgment Day Shaytan will disown those who followed his footsteps
  4. Story of Barsisa: a pious 60-year worshipper gradually led to zina, murder, and shirk
  5. Modern applications: workplace boundaries, time management, and choosing greater good deeds
  6. Seven enumerated steps of Shaytan's plan, ending with a call to lower pride and stand for truth
Try this week
Read and study the Quran between Jumuahs rather than relying only on the khutbah
Take Shaytan as a declared enemy and examine whether your actions follow his footsteps
Maintain professional boundaries with coworkers and avoid the 'work spouse' trap
Do not belittle minor sins; gently advise fellow Muslims when you see them
Guard your time and avoid binge-watching or other permissible distractions that consume days
Choose the more rewarding good deed when possible, such as praying in the masjid or volunteering for the community
Lower your pride, seek advice from others, and speak the truth bravely even under pressure
Sources the khateeb cited
Surah 59Shaytan will disown his followers on the Day of Judgment, saying 'I fear Allah, the Lord of the worlds'
Surah 57Allah is with people wherever they are, so they should rely on Him

For the dinner table

Today the khateeb reminded us that Shaytan is not a cartoon villain, he is our real enemy, and he leads people astray one small step at a time, not all at once. He told the story of Barsisa, a man who worshipped Allah for sixty years but still fell into terrible sin because he kept making little compromises that seemed kind and reasonable. The khateeb also warned us about "small" sins adding up like tiny sticks that become a huge fire, and about being careful with close friendships at work or school that can slowly cross boundaries. Most importantly, he taught us that Allah is always with us, and if we keep turning to Him, seeking His help, and staying humble, we can recognize Shaytan's footsteps and stay on the right path.

  1. What's one small choice you made this week that you're proud of because it pleased Allah?
  2. How can you tell the difference between a friend who helps you become a better Muslim and one who might lead you the wrong way?
  3. If Shaytan tries to trick people slowly, what's one thing our family can do to check in on each other?
