Hidden shirk makes hearts vulnerable to deception
“The more that we entertain the doubtful matters and the debates of the ulama, the more we fall into the traps that are deceiving.”
The Dajjal’s fitnah is preceded by deception and hidden shirk, so Muslims must avoid sensationalism and doubtful matters while strengthening sincere worship, sound iman, dua, and adherence to the Sunnah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Introduces taqwa and contrasts sensationalist end-times talk with neglect of the Dajjal’s warnings.
- Explains hadith about false claimants and the pre-Dajjal inversion of truth and falsehood.
- Urges believers to judge observable actions without judging hearts and to avoid doubtful matters.
- Warns against mass deception, political compromise, and relying on leaders or political systems for deliverance.
- Identifies hidden shirk and performative worship as a danger more frightening than the Dajjal.
- Closes by urging dua, salah, teaching children the protection supplication, and following the Sunnah.
In the khateeb's words
“there's either one of two extremisms either Muslims love to talk about the end of times they love to talk about conspiracy theories and then it's followed up with no action”
“we judge actions but now we've gone to such an extremism where you have a very popular trend where you can't judge anything”
“the more that we entertain the doubtful matters and the debates of the ulama the more we fall into the traps that are deceiving and that may make our hearts perfect for the dajjal to come”
For the dinner table
Imam Omar Tawil spoke about the Dajjal and reminded us that learning about these warnings should change how we live, rather than become only interesting conversation. He urged us to strengthen our faith through prayer, dua, and following the Prophet’s example. He explained that we can recognize good and harmful actions while leaving the hidden reality of people's hearts to Allah. He also challenged us to seek religious guidance sincerely, instead of searching only for answers we already like. A central reminder was to worship for Allah rather than for people's approval, giving our private prayers care and attention too.
- What is one habit from the Prophet's example you would like to practice this week?
- How can we notice when we are looking for the answer we want instead of trying to learn?
- What could help you slow down and give your prayer more attention when you are alone?
