Use knowledge to serve and excel
“Islam is the religion of creativity and development.”
Islam should be lived as knowledge, creativity, excellence, and responsible service inside and outside the mosque, while families protect and develop the next generation.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Humans are entrusted on earth, so worship should lead to constructive action and responsible stewardship.
- Muslims should pursue useful knowledge and excellence in every profession, drawing inspiration from Muslim scientific history.
- Parents should identify, support, and develop their children’s talents spiritually, financially, and educationally.
- Believers should use time wisely, guard their families from corruption, consider consequences, and admit and correct mistakes.
- The khutbah closes with prayers for families and oppressed people and a call to protect faith through knowledge and good character.
In the khateeb's words
“We need to implement what we learned from our religion into actions and science. and medicine. Engineering.”
“Islam is the religion of creativity and development. He invites his followers to free themselves from the shackles of repetition and the routine”
“We cannot change our reality until we change ourselves, until we develop our skills.”
“If it's good, he will do it. If it's not good, he will never do it.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that Islam is not limited to prayer and fasting in the mosque. Our faith should make us people of knowledge, creativity, excellence, and service in whatever work we do. We should use our time wisely, think about the consequences of our choices, and admit and repair our mistakes. Parents should notice their children’s gifts, support them spiritually and materially, and help them stay safe from harmful temptations. We can ask Allah to protect our families and aid people suffering around the world.
- What is one useful skill you would like to develop?
- How can our family use time more wisely this week?
- How can we help someone discover and grow their talent?
