For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah teaches that Allah may be working through events we experience as loss, delay, or confusion. The story of Musa and Khidr shows a damaged boat, a painful death, and a repaired wall could each hide mercy and protection. We may not receive the explanation in this life, so we are called to trust Allah, keep making dua, remember His favors, and remain patient. We should be grateful in ease and patient in hardship, knowing that Allah is near and hears us. When life does not make sense, we can ask Allah for certainty in His wisdom while continuing to do what is right.

  1. What is one disappointment that might look different if we remembered Allah sees more than we do?
  2. What helps you keep making dua when you do not see change?
  3. Where could we practice patience in hardship and gratitude in ease this week?
