Do not leave Ramadan before it ends
“When I see the finish line, I ought to increase my efforts.”
Ramadan should not be mentally abandoned before it ends; believers should seek the highest ranks by obeying Allah and His Messenger, intensifying worship, and using the remaining days well.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Ramadan is brief, so believers should not bid it farewell before it has ended.
- Obedience to Allah and His Messenger can lead to companionship with prophets, truthful believers, martyrs, and the righteous.
- Believers should aim for Firdaus and emulate the worship of those who attained high ranks.
- Examples from the companions show that longing for the Prophet’s companionship should motivate increased prostration and prayer.
- The last ten nights require intensified effort, following the Prophet’s example and the practice of the righteous predecessors.
- Listeners are urged to prioritize the remaining Ramadan nights over entertainment and worldly concerns by increasing Quran reading, charity, prayer, and supplication.
In the khateeb's words
“when I see the finish line I ought to increase my efforts and this was the Da'ab-us-Saliheen this was the way the pious predecessors acted and behaved in the last 10 of Ramadan”
“I need to understand that my games my entertainment my job my priorities my worldly life will still be there after Ramadan it will still be there after Ramadan”
“increase the number of pages you are reading increase the charity you are giving increase the number of raka'at you are praying to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
For the dinner table
Ramadan passes quickly, so we should not start celebrating its end before it is actually over. The khutbah encourages us to seek Allah’s highest gifts, especially Firdaus and the company of the righteous, by obeying Allah, following the Prophet, and making plentiful prostration. In the last ten nights, we should increase Quran reading, charity, prayer, and sincere dua because ordinary work and entertainment will still be there later. We should use the remaining nights, including the odd nights and Laylat al-Qadr, because none of us is guaranteed another Ramadan.
- What does aiming for Firdaus look like in our family this Ramadan?
- What is one distraction we can pause so we can worship more?
- What extra prayer, Quran reading, or charity can we do before Ramadan ends?
