Five duas parents should make for children

“What our children need in these days and these times is a sincere compassion and mercy.”

For the dinner table

The khutbah teaches parents to regularly make Qur'anic duas for their children, asking Allah to guide, protect, and bless them. We can ask that our children establish prayer, be protected from Shaytan, have righteous relationships, become a comfort to our eyes, and grow into grateful people who do good deeds. Parents were encouraged to make these duas in sujood, during salah, and at night. The khateeb also encouraged children to hear their parents praying for them, so dua becomes part of the family's love and legacy. Finally, he reminded us never to make dua against our children, especially when we are angry, but to keep asking Allah to guide and repair their hearts.

  1. What is one thing you would like the family to make dua for you about?
  2. When do you feel most comfortable talking to Allah?
  3. How can we show love when someone in the family makes a mistake?
