Trust God and resist worldly excess
“God wants you and I to flourish.”
Spiritual stability and divine protection come from recognizing God as the sole source of reality, moderating desire, remaining humble, and maintaining a continuous connection through prayer and truthfulness.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- God’s mercy, revelation, and life’s purpose provide stability amid worldly chaos.
- Beginning with the basmala connects every endeavor to divine mercy and protection.
- Materialism, greed, and desire distract people, while life’s tests can cultivate gratitude and faith.
- Preparation for the hereafter requires meaningful iman, disciplined desire, repentance, and lasting charity.
- Truthful words and trust in God provide comfort and protection in threatening circumstances.
- Islam requires continuous commitment, humility, and resistance to normalizing excess, laziness, and temptation.
- The khutbah closes with prayers for protection, healing, justice, unity, and spiritual growth.
In the khateeb's words
“The danger is in this normalization. So each and every one of us are on a journey and path to God's mercy.”
“God wants you and I to flourish. God wants you and I to attain. God wants you and I to have access to His mercy.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that God’s mercy, guidance, and protection can bring calm to our hearts even when the world feels unsettled. We were warned not to seek lasting peace in money, status, power, or endless desire, because this life includes tests as well as ease. The khateeb encouraged us to prepare for the hereafter now by practicing gratitude, prayer, generosity, self-control, and sincere faith. He taught that a steady relationship with God requires commitment even when we feel tired, tempted, or confused. Above all, we were called to speak truthfully, remain humble, and trust that God wants us to grow and reach His mercy.
- What repeated part of your day could you approach with a fresh intention tomorrow?
- When is it hardest for you to say “Alhamdulillah, that’s enough”?
- What is one humble or truthful choice you want to practice this week?
