The khutbah begins with the Qur'anic account that Isa, or Jesus, was not killed or crucified as his enemies claimed, then connects their projected victory to the way people today perform strength. It reminds us that worldly appearances can be deceptive: losing a moment does not mean losing Allah’s promise, and apparent success may even be istidraj, being given room while doing wrong. We should stay concerned about oppressed and innocent people, but not let concern become anxious mistrust of Allah. After Jumu’ah, we can measure ourselves by truth and Allah’s promise, ask Allah to show us truth and falsehood clearly, and examine whether our own ease is drawing us closer or hiding a problem.
