Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“so it's lisan, jinan, arkan meaning from your heart from your tongue and through your actions”
“when you are confronted in a negative way something that is hurtful to you someone says something or does something to you you want to respond and push back”
“we're thinking about being better persons so then we are showing through our actions we are thankful to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for the blessing that He has given us”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that gratitude to Allah is more than saying thank you. It should appear in our hearts, on our tongues, and in our actions, especially when life is difficult. When people hurt or oppose us, we are urged to answer with what is better, restrain our anger, and choose forgiveness over revenge. The examples of Yusuf and the Prophet Muhammad show that mercy can transform enemies and open the door to repentance. We are also reminded to help people who are suffering through our time, money, energy, and prayers.
- What is one way we can show gratitude through an action this week?
- How could we respond with goodness when someone is unkind?
- Who could we support with our time, energy, money, or prayers?
