Ask Allah for every need

“All of your needs are in the hands of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 11:01

In one sentence

Because Allah is completely self-sufficient while every person depends on Him, believers should ask Him for every need, worship Him alone, obey with gratitude, and remember that their deeds return to them.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Revisits the hadith al-Qudsi: Allah forbids oppression and invites dependent, sinful servants to seek His forgiveness.

  4. Explains Allah’s self-sufficiency: obedience benefits people, while disobedience harms only themselves.

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah forbids oppression and that we depend on Him for guidance, food, clothing, and forgiveness. We all make mistakes, and Allah invites us to seek His forgiveness. The khateeb encouraged us to ask Allah for both our biggest hopes and our smallest everyday needs, even something like a shoelace. Allah is self-sufficient, so our worship and gratitude benefit us, while His generosity does not diminish His kingdom. Every deed matters, even an atom’s weight of good, so we can bring care and purpose to the small choices we make each day.

  1. What small thing could you ask Allah for today, like the shoelace example?
  2. What big hope would you like to include in your dua?
  3. What little act of kindness could you do tomorrow that someone might otherwise overlook?
