Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah taught that a Muslim’s honor is shown by character and by standing with people who are treated unjustly. The khateeb recalled the Prophet’s support for Hilf al-Fudul, a pact in Makkah that defended an outsider against a powerful leader, and he praised the early Muslims’ concern for justice in Abyssinia. He explained that Allah commands justice, excellence, and care for relatives, while forbidding indecency, evil, and oppression. This begins at home: we should fulfill the rights of Allah, family, neighbors, and community, forgive others, strengthen family ties, and treat our families well. Because our society is also our home, we should use responsible avenues such as voting, donating, supporting, educating, and speaking for what is right.

  1. What does good character look like when someone else is being treated unfairly?
  2. How can we be better to our family this week?
