Being Muslim requires complete submission
“Yusuf ala salam, who was born like few thousand years before our Prophet, but he wanted to die as a Muslim.”
True membership in the nation of Islam is not inherited or automatic but is earned through a conscious, complete submission to Allah's will, expressed in daily righteous deeds and fidelity to the Quran.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Opening with taqwa, sincerity, and a request for forgiveness
- Allah created all humans (insan) and made Islam the only religion acceptable to Him
- Islam begins with Tawheed and requires complete surrender, not partial or inherited identity
- Prophets Ibrahim, Nuh, Yusuf, Musa, and Isa all sought to live and die as Muslims
- Allah commanded Prophet Muhammad to perfect the religion and be the foremost Muslim
- Membership is by choice, free, and never too late because of Allah's mercy
- The reward for righteous Muslims is Jannah with their families and angelic greetings
- Closing dua to be accepted as members of Islam and to protect the children
In the khateeb's words
“Yusuf ala salam, who was born like few thousand years before our Prophet, but he wanted to die as a Muslim.”
“In order to become a member of the club, knowing myself is the key. Knowing myself is the answer. And how I know myself? Based on the Holy Code.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that our journey begins as human beings and becomes a Muslim through complete submission to Allah. The shahadah is the foundation, but submission must also appear in righteous daily conduct toward our families, neighbors, coworkers, and community. The Qur'an is our guide and the criterion that helps us recognize right and wrong. We are encouraged to know ourselves honestly, seek Allah's mercy, and remember that it is never too late to return to Him. We can begin today through worship, learning, and doing what is right.
- What is one good deed you could do for someone in our family this week?
- When has the Qur'an helped you know what the right thing was?
- What is one change you would like to make for Allah?
