Put the hereafter before worldly life

“The desire continues to grow day by day as we age, even though day by day we are getting closer to our graves.”

The khateeb, at 10:35

In one sentence

Because the dunya is temporary and limited, Muslims should seek its good without making it their priority, instead centering their lives on the akhirah and remembrance of Allah.

The khateeb reminded us that our lives here are temporary, even though our wishes and plans keep growing. He shared a story about his classic car to show that the things we own may remain long after we are gone. He encouraged us to ask Allah for good in this life and the next, while making the afterlife our priority. He explained that true richness includes a contented heart, while constantly chasing more can leave us comparing ourselves with others and feeling we have nothing. As a family, we can remember Allah, appreciate what we have, and make choices that prepare us for the next life.

  1. What is something you already have that you sometimes forget to appreciate?
  2. What could we ask Allah for tonight that would help us in this life and the next?
