Why the afterlife makes justice necessary

“The truth does not give us permission to spread unverified claims.”

The khateeb, at 25:09

In one sentence

Because divine justice is incomplete in this world, the afterlife is necessary, and believers must resist oppression, scrutinize narratives, verify information, and speak truth with Zainab-like dignity.

For the dinner table

Today the sheikh explained one reason we believe in life after death: Allah is completely just. In this world, some oppressors die without ever facing justice, and many good people suffer without ever getting their rights back. So there has to be another life where Allah makes everything right. He also reminded us that we can't just sit back. When we see injustice in our family, our community or the world, we have to try to help, without ever becoming unfair ourselves. Then he told us about Sayyidah Zainab, whose birthday we celebrate tonight. She bravely and carefully told the truth about Karbala so the oppressors couldn't change the story, and she teaches us to question what we hear, check facts before we share them, and speak the truth with dignity.

  1. Have you ever seen something unfair happen? What could you do to help, in a kind and fair way?
  2. Why do you think Sayyidah Zainab chose her words so carefully when she spoke up?
  3. If a friend sends you a message and you're not sure it's true, what should you do?
