Our votes serve future generations
Because Allah has given Muslims faith, opportunity, and residence in this society, they must turn worship into sincere civic responsibility, especially voting, service, justice, and good character, to protect the community and future generations.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Defines Jumu'ah as a blessed day of reflection, purification, forgiveness, and rewarded worship.
- Explains that Allah's blessings bring responsibility, and that a good life requires faith and righteous action benefiting society.
- Warns that the future of Muslims in the country depends on the current generation preserving faith, practices, and identity.
- Urges Muslims to vote and engage civically despite being a minority, framing each vote as a meaningful responsibility for justice.
- Connects civic effort with prayer, patience, charity, service, humility, and exemplary character rather than force.
- Closes by emphasizing accountability to Allah and the duty to benefit future generations through sincere effort.
In the khateeb's words
“as the blessings of Allah increases upon an individual in the same way, the responsibilities also increase.”
“So we have to do our part, our responsibility, our work, and then couple that with the supplication, with sacrifice, with humbleness, with patience, with charity, with care, with giving, with loving, with providing.”
“And these were the living people, the Sahaba, wherever they went, they changed the entire society, not by force, but by akhlaq, by behavior.”
“And Allah has made every generation responsible for the next one.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Friday is a day of worship, reflection, and forgiveness. It teaches that Allah's blessings also bring responsibility: our faith should make us care for our families, neighbors, and wider society. Voting, learning about candidates, serving others, and standing for justice are ways to take that responsibility seriously, even when we feel like a small minority. Our efforts should be joined with prayer, patience, humility, charity, and good character, never force. When we act sincerely today, we help protect faith, dignity, and opportunity for the generations after us.
- What is one responsibility our family has toward our neighborhood?
- How can we prepare thoughtfully before voting?
- Where could good character make a difference this week?
