Every Muslim must share Islam with goodness
“Your responsibility is to deliver the message in the best way possible.”
Every Muslim inherits the Prophet's mission of calling others to Islam with knowledge, patience, good character, and concrete community involvement.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Defines Muslim identity as carrying a lifelong mission, not remaining idle or indifferent.
- Explains that da'wah requires knowledge, patience, perseverance, and responding to hostility with goodness.
- Uses Abu Dharr and Amr ibn Tufayl al-Dawsi to show believers taking responsibility.
- Calls attendees to attend, bring family, and volunteer at the May 24 Columbus convention.
- Extends the appeal to sharing Islam and building a home-grown Muslim community.
- Concludes with supplications and Qur'anic recitation before prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“it's a mission statement of the Muslims not to sit idle not to follow the crowd not to be indifferent not to be aimless and visionless”
“you take that mission with you through your actions words you use everything that you have for that mission your time your energy your intellect your wealth your connections”
“your responsibility is to deliver the message in the best way possible for them to believe that's up to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that every Muslim carries a message through both words and actions. The khateeb encouraged us to use our time, abilities, and relationships to share Islam and do good, rather than leaving every contribution to scholars or imams. He emphasized knowledge, patience, and responding to bad treatment with goodness. Our responsibility is to share the message in the best way we can, while leaving people’s acceptance to Allah. Through stories of the companions and an invitation to volunteer and participate in community life, he encouraged each of us to find a meaningful way to contribute.
- What is one way your actions could show someone something good about Islam this week?
- How could you respond kindly if someone misunderstood your faith?
- What ability or interest could you use to help our community?
